Black Material is a transatlantic, orchestral musician specializing in trailerscores with a heavy electronic lead. Think Skrillex at the movies. Think Superman was set on Mars.
UK born and University educated in computer science and Music Theory, Black Material (aka Ali) cut his teeth playing shows with an electro band which took him across the globe. Landing in the USA on a particularly successful tour, Ali discovered Austin TX, one of America's music heartlands, and decided to stay. Such a bold move impacted on his travels with his previous band, but gave an early release date to the Orchestral Trailer music he always wanted to move his career toward.
After building a studio and shipping some choice equipment and instruments across that pond, Black Material was ready to release the first batch of trailer scores to the public with great applause.
"Trailer music is lawless to me. There are no rules, guidelines or boundaries
that guide your hand when writing a piece and you're literally just looking for
something gut wrenchingly arresting. Something that shakes you in your
seat and grips you. I always imagine a jungle when I think of trailer music, it's
lawless, honest, loud, impulsive and wild."
Black Material isn't on the out side looking in, he's there with a box of new sounds ready to 'blow the bloody doors off'. We look forward to seeing this new breed of soundtrack composer explode.
